Abstract
The study aims to discover the reasons behind Bangladeshi students’ mental health problems and how these problems are driving them to commit suicide. The study used secondary data from the yearly report of an NGO named Aachol Foundation and from different online journals. This research considered cases from secondary school and madrasah going to university-level students. In this study, the content analysis method is used to interpret reports and journal articles that address mental health problems and their reasons, which influence students of committing suicide. Bangladeshi students face these types of mental health problems, such as depression, stress, anxiety, inferiority, and sleep disorder etc. Familial discord, arrogance with parents, arrogance with siblings, academic pressure, relationship failure, harassment by the teacher, sexual harassment, and COVID-19 had a lot of negative impact on students’ mental health; these are the vital causes that lead students to commit suicide. Due to these reasons from 2020 to 2023, a total of 1,073 students committed suicide in various academic levels, viz., secondary school, higher secondary, madrasah, and university. So, it is an alarming situation for Bangladeshi students. Implementing preventive measures from the perspectives of institutions, families, and the government can help diminish suicidal risk. Otherwise, suicide will be an unbreakable curse for Bangladeshi youth.
